LEV Update

Memorial Day weekend for many Americans is about honoring those who have fought and died for our country, as well as having BBQs and parties to kick off the official start of summer. For us, this year, it was that and so much more. We were with amazing people kicking off the summer at a now time-honored tradition and gathering called LEV - Lift Every Voice. AIJC co-sponsored this year’s conference with BBYO and JDCN.

We worked with two returning faculty, Eric Hunker and Rachel Wolman. They were fabulous, and we hope all of you have a chance to work with them in the future. Eric and Rachel started each day with a morning ritual and ended the day with a musical evening activity. Participants, many of whom did not know each other, worked in small groups to prepare song sessions in an effort to both extend their repertoire and give them songleading practice. They also discussed how to create welcoming spaces at camp that help create engaging music specialties for campers. And, of course, there were the song sessions and services. Their voices, guitars, and drums blended beautifully and sparked a spiritual flame that was nothing short of magical!

In all, there was a fun mix of song leaders, some new and some seasoned, all of whom embraced the weekend filled with music, leadership, laughter, grilled cheese, and nature. They sharpened their skills, established a song leaders network, and created memorable moments all weekend. We would like to recognize the AIJC member camps’ songleaders who participated this year - Dan Kohane (Camp AIRY), Jordan Tabasky (Camp Tel Noar), and Clara Goldberg (Camp Louise). We are certain they have strengthened your camp’s music program and made you proud this summer!

Now, as the summer comes to an end, and we are looking towards planning the 2023 LEV conference, we encourage all of you to think about a staff member or two who can join us in 2023. It is never too early to start thinking about next summer! Contact Andrea for more information.
